Incubating Common Nighthawk – Frontenac Prov. Park

Inventory, Monitoring & Study

The Frontenac Arch provides viable conditions for many rare/sensitive species. Within our study area alone, twelve bird species designated as Species at Risk occur, several of which breed here in nationally significant densities (e.g. Cerulean Warbler). FBS staff and carefully georeference and document any rare species detected during all fieldwork operations within the breeding season and also conduct inventories and studies of select species on an ongoing basis. This effort will greatly enhance current knowledge of density and distribution of rare species in the area. At present, our efforts are being directed to monitoring and study of Cerulean Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush and Red-headed Woodpecker. For more information refer to our articles on Prairie Warbler, Cerulean Warbler, Red-headed Woodpecker, Louisiana Waterthrush and Whip-poor-will.
